On August 31, the China Enterprise Confederation and the China Entrepreneur Association released the 2013 list of the top 500 Chinese enterprises in Kunming. The Group Company once again made a strong showing, ranking 67th with an operating revenue of 180.3 billion yuan in 2012, an improvement of 7 places compared to 2012; at the same time, the list of the top 500 Chinese manufacturing enterprises and the top 500 service enterprises were also released, and the Group Company was ranked 23rd among the top 500 Chinese manufacturing enterprises, moving up 4 places from the previous year, achieving a double promotion in the "Top 500 Chinese Enterprises" and "Top 500 Chinese Manufacturing Enterprises" rankings.
Compared with the previous year, the top ten enterprises on the list remained unchanged, with Sinopec, PetroChina, State Grid, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and Construction Bank of China still ranking in the top five, while Agricultural Bank of China and Bank of China both moved up one place, and China Mobile dropped from sixth to eighth place. Among these 500 enterprises, 42 enterprises changed places on the list, 4 more than the previous year, indicating that the pattern of large Chinese enterprises continues to show strong stability.
In terms of the entry threshold, the entry threshold for the 2013 Top 500 Chinese Enterprises reached 19.867 billion yuan, an increase of 13.48% over the previous year. 123 enterprises had operating revenues exceeding 100 billion yuan, an increase of 16 over the previous year; among them, 16 were private enterprises, an increase of 1 over the previous year. The total operating revenue of these 123 enterprises was 34.97 trillion yuan, accounting for 69.9% of the total operating revenue of the top 500 enterprises.
Although the overall scale of the Top 500 Chinese Enterprises continued to grow, with total operating revenue exceeding 50 trillion yuan for the first time last year, reaching 50.02 trillion yuan, the growth rate has slowed significantly, at only 11.41%, a significant drop of 12.22 percentage points compared to the previous year. In terms of operating performance, the total net profit attributable to the parent company of these 500 enterprises was 2.17 trillion yuan, only a 3.58% increase over the previous year; the average return on revenue was 4.34%, down 0.33 percentage points from the previous year; the average return on assets was 1.44%, down 0.14 percentage points from the previous year, with both the average return on revenue and the average return on assets declining for two consecutive years.
It is noteworthy that among these 500 enterprises, 216 enterprises experienced negative net profit growth; 43 enterprises suffered losses, an increase of 30 compared to the previous year, and 7 enterprises saw their losses further expand. Among them, 430 enterprises reported R&D data, and according to statistics, the increase in R&D investment was significantly lower than the previous year, and the growth rate was also slightly lower than the growth rate of operating revenue; the average R&D intensity of these 430 enterprises was 1.27%, which has been declining for two consecutive years.
In terms of taxes, the total tax revenue of the 2013 Top 500 Chinese Enterprises reached 3.65 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.92% over the previous year, accounting for 36.28% of China's total tax revenue in 2012; from a single enterprise perspective, 69 enterprises had tax payments exceeding 10 billion yuan, an increase of 9 compared to the previous year. These figures show that despite the impact of the economic recovery cycle on Chinese enterprises and the more severe challenges facing the business environment, the tax revenue paid to the state is still increasing.
